KFB Vocational Training Centre for Visually Handicapped Women, Pothanicaud, Eranakulam.

Kerala Federation of the Blind Vocational Training Centre for the Visually Handicapped Women, Pothanicaud, Ernakulam is the only one institution of its kind in the State. It was established in 1979 with the help of Royal Common Wealth Society for the Blind. It was functioning in a rented building at Koduveli. On 11th October 1987, the centre was shifted to the present building at Pothanicaud which was constructed with Grant in Aid from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. Kerala Federation of the Blind started and maintained this project to address the needs of the adult blind women, as there has not been any such service for this specific group in the State. Now there are 30 trainees at the Centre. The Centre provides vocational training such as; computer training, Chair canning, Book Binding, Mobility & Orientation, Daily Living Skills, Home Management etc. Braille Education and General Education are also taught because, most of the trainees are coming to the centre as illiterate and over protected.
