Louis Braille Memmorial Model School, Kudayathur, Idukki


Louis Braille Memmorial Model School for the Blind is a remarkable institution in Kerala for the education of blind pupils in Idukki district. It is near the Moolamattom power house and the river bank of Malankara Dam-Thodupuzha. It was established in 1997. Three acre land donated by MVIP to improvise the education of needy blind. The Ex. MP Sri. Francies George laid the foundation stone on 29th May 2003 in the presense of MLA Sri. Roshi Augustin, Kudayathoor Gramapanachayathu President Sri. Karunan Pillai and KFB General Secretary Sri. Georgekutty Karepparambil and President Sri. P.A Jose etc. The new building was inagurated by Sri. M.A Baby (Honourable Minister for Education) on 29 th January 2007 and hostel building was inagurated by Sri. Francies George M.P. Ex. MLA Sri. Sulaiman Ravuthar, Honarable Minister Sri. P.J Joseph etc were rendered remarkable help in the progress of this institution. It is recogonized and aided by the state Education Department on 2001 and upgraded in 2005. Now the school is 1st to 7th standard and boarding facilities to 8th to 10thclass students. There are 13 employees working out of 5 are visually challenged. Now 40 students studying in 1st to 7th standard and 10 in high school. The institution focus the alround devolopment of the visually challenged pupils. It promotes the skill of blind pupils to move freely one place to another place. Daily living skills, music, craft, braille, and co-curricular activities. It is a unique institution in the backward district of Idukki which cares to the educational needs of the visually challenged children in the hilly region. The local self Govt. and public gives support to the school functioning. The Idukki MLA Sri. Roshi Augustine gave 1.5 lakh rupees for the built of compund wall and Idukki MP Sri. P. T Thomas gave the computer and acceries to the school, more over the Lioness club 324E donated 3 computer and Idukki District Police Socity gave 40 bed and beddings. Contact No:0486 2253472.
